Iron Factory’s Samurai Grimlock, also known as EX-50 Daishogun Boohmaru, is an outstanding collectible toy in the Transformers toys series.
Appearance Design
Robot Form: The figure is designed with a robust and muscular build, featuring broad shoulders, thick arms, and legs, which well embodies Grimlock’s powerful image. The overall shape is sleek, with almost complete armor coverage, presenting a strong visual impact like a warrior clad in heavy armor. Its color scheme mainly consists of dark gray, light gray, and gold, exuding a cold and magnificent texture of armor. The two red dots on the shoulders are eye-catching in both robot and dinosaur forms, adding a touch of brightness to the overall design while also restoring the armor theme .
Dinosaur Form: In dinosaur form, the body is entirely covered with armor. Although the head and front claws are not stored but attached to the back as a backpack, due to the unified color and coordinated element design, they do not appear obtrusive. The head can open its mouth, and the jaw has delicate detailing, with a red line being the finishing touch. However, the connection between the hind legs and the body is slightly wide, slightly affecting the overall integrity. The connecting parts of the front claws are exposed outside the body, looking a bit abrupt. Additionally, the neck has a limited range of motion, and the tail cannot be bent.
Articulation and Details
Articulation: Despite the armor coverage restricting the range of motion to some extent, the waist can rotate, and the joints have an appropriate tightness. The connection between the calf and the foot uses a ball joint, providing a decent range of motion that can meet the basic playability requirements.
Details: In terms of details, Iron Factory’s Samurai Grimlock has many remarkable features. The face mask has been adjusted with added tusk details, excellently restore the setting of the Eastern War Helmet, along with the transparent parts of the eyes, making it look extremely delicate. The transparent part on the chest enhances the overall magnificence of the toy. The connection between the chest armor and the waist, as well as the skirt armor, has multi-color paint applications, with distinct layers that echo the structural hierarchy. Moreover, the red lines on the calf and foot are designed to correspond to the geta (Japanese wooden clogs), demonstrating the designer’s meticulousness.
Weaponry
This toy comes equipped with two swords and a machete, and the machete can be disassembled into two axes. These weapons can be placed on the back as components similar to flags, adding more playability and a majestic appearance to the toy. The weapons are finely crafted, each with unique details and a good质感, and the double swords also incorporate transparent parts, giving them a great feel when held in hand.
Transformation Design
The transformation process is relatively complex. The two components that form the tail have a stretchable joint at the connection point, which requires special attention during transformation to ensure it is pulled out properly. Also, when transforming the upper body of the dinosaur, the connecting piece of the head needs to be accurately aligned. Its transformation logic is different from that of G1 Grimlock, with the dragon head placed at the rear of the robot form, somewhat resembling the transformation rhythm of the Ninja Gobot Grimlock.
