Looking Forward to the Complete Form of Defensor

Speaking of the combiners from OX, they always leave a unique and confident impression. On one hand, they dare to design combiners without any additional accessories; on the other hand, they don’t release the main body last to keep people in suspense. I have a very positive impression of their Predaking. Overall, it can be considered the best Predaking combiner to date.

This time, the overall quality of Defensor surpasses even Predaking. The only issue is that, due to my current living conditions, I can’t find Streetwise and First Aid that I bought earlier. Well, it’s not that I can’t find them; it’s just that after accumulating a certain number of toys, they all end up packed in boxes and stored in the warehouse, making them hard to locate. I’m sure you’ve noticed that in the past two years, the toys I take out for comparison have become much more monotonous compared to before when I could easily grab a suitable comparison model.

Therefore, I’ve been quite conflicted about unboxing the latest figures because I can’t show you the progress of this combiner. Particularly, without the leg part Streetwise, the combined form of Defensor lacks sufficient leg support. I even considered skipping the review, but OX’s Hot Spot is so well-made that it would be a pity to skip it. So, I’ll do my best to talk about this toy.

Hot Spot’s vehicle mode is a blue fire truck, which has some similarities to the transporter of his old rival, Onslaught. Some unscrupulous manufacturers have made Hot Spot a remold of Onslaught, but OX didn’t do that. Hot Spot is a completely new mold.

The overall quality of the toy is excellent. The only noticeable flaw is an issue with the cab section; it doesn’t seem to close completely. I’m not sure if this is a unique defect in my copy or a more widespread problem.

Its body is quite large, but the six tires can adhere well to the ground. Combined with the rubber material, pushing the vehicle is effortless.

In vehicle mode, Hot Spot completely conceals his robot and combiner features. The design is very cohesive, definitely deserving of high praise.

Especially noteworthy is its undercarriage, which is fully enclosed. The robot’s head and legs are completely hidden within the vehicle body, and even the red chest plate is stored by rotating 180 degrees.

The front of the cab has average seam alignment, but the sides are flawlessly done. It’s a bit unfortunate that the doors don’t open, but this minor drawback is inconsequential.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements for the three transformation modes of the combiner, OX has also included many small details, such as the support stands at the rear of the vehicle body, which add an extra touch of playability.

With such rich detail, the police lights and sirens on the roof seem perfectly natural. Interestingly, even in combined mode, the police lights can serve as secure clasps, which is a clever design choice.

Even though it achieves the combiner’s integrated transformation without additional accessories, Hot Spot doesn’t seem to have made any significant sacrifices for it. If anything, the only drawback might be the limited length of the ladder, but even with its shorter length, the base of the ladder can still rotate 360 degrees without obstruction.

OX’s Hot Spot and Fun Rock, although they have different themes and design objectives, surprisingly complement each other in terms of scale.

OX’s Hot Spot showcases a remarkably high standard of transformation design. The transitions between its vehicle and robot modes are extremely clever, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and seamless transformation, which is quite challenging to achieve. This aspect is notably lacking in current FT combiner figures. The number of parts and joints used in Hot Spot is remarkable, far exceeding what official toys would typically invest in. The ability to combine such a multitude of parts and joints while achieving three distinct modes demonstrates the excellence of this toy.

Many Hot Spot toys simply fold the arms and legs to complete the transformation, but OX’s Hot Spot goes further by incorporating numerous clever twists and pull joints. Undoubtedly, it’s the most outstanding Hot Spot toy I’ve seen to date.

Its robot mode has good fidelity, with limb proportions that don’t present any noticeable issues, and its appearance captures the essence of G1 Hot Spot’s characteristics.
